East’s Best Mountain Biking

East’s Best Mountain Biking Image 1

The D&L Corridor offers scenery, natural lakes, free-flowing rivers and remnants of the coal and lumber industries.  This combination makes for some of the east’s best mountain biking.  A sport that requires endurance, bike handling skills and self-reliance, bicycling on knobby tires is available along off-road trails, country back roads, fire roads, and narrow singletrack.  Pick from resorts, state game lands,  rail-trails, and state, county and municipal parks scattered along along the main D&L Trail and adjacent towns.  Mountain bikers should always be respectful of adjacent private property and follow the International Mountain Biking Association’s (IMBA)

Rules of the Trail:

  1. Ride On Open Trails Only
  2. Leave No Trace
  3. Yield to Others
  4. Never Scare Animals
  5. Plan Ahead
  6. Ride On Open Trails Only

  • National Trails Day

    Saturday, June 5

    Jim Thorpe Trailhead
    Jim Thorpe, PA

Mark your calendar. This year’s National Trails Day event promises to be one of the best yet. To commemorate this long-anticipated event, the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and Carbon County will co-host a trail dedication featuring Pennsylvania Speaker of the House, Keith McCall, who was instrumental in the trail’s completion. The dedication begins at 10:30 a.m.
The dedication will be followed by four bicycle rides geared to a variety of skill levels. For a $20 ($50 for a family of five or fewer) donation to the non-profit D&L, Pocono Biking will shuttle riders to Rockport or White Haven. Those who shuttle to White Haven will ride the 26 miles back to Jim Thorpe on their own and at their own pace. People who get off at Rockport – 13 miles north of Jim Thorpe – have two options: ride back to Jim Thorpe on their own, or ride back with a guide who will point out historic features along the way. Shuttle riders will receive wristbands that identify them as National Trails Day participants and make them eligible for discounts and free gifts at many Jim Thorpe businesses.  The fourth ride being offered is a six-mile, family-oriented round-trip from Jim Thorpe to Glen Onoko and back.  The family ride does not require a donation to the D&L, although riders who do make a donation of $10 will receive a wristband and also become eligible for discounts and free gifts in Jim Thorpe. Non-riders also can receive wristbands for a $10 donation.
Wristbands will be available at the dedication site on National Trails Day.  Receive a discount by purchasing your wristband online by June 3rd.
    To purchase online visit: http://store.delawareandlehigh.org/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=DLNS&Category_Code=EVNT
Online wristband purchases may be picked up at the D&L tent Saturday morning—June 5th.
