Audubon’s Lehigh Auto Tour

This 53 -mile road trip highlights John James Audubon’s 1829 visit to the Upper Lehigh River in Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he explored the variety of birds and other wildlife. This road trip retraces some of his Footsteps through the “Great Pine Forest” and provides the “Explorer” the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the region and it’s rich industrial and natural heritage. Visitors will travel through the heart of the Pocono Mountains, enjoying scenic views, bird watching, historic sites, shops, and recreational areas.

Follow a loop from the Train Station in Jim Thorpe:

  • 209 South to 93 North
  • right on the Hudsondale-Weatherly Road
  • right through Weatherly to the end of Lehigh Gorge Drive
  • right on 940 into White Haven
  • right on Route 534 East
  • right on 903 South back to Jim Thorpe
