The Basics: This section follows the towpath between Weissport and Parryville, where the canal reenters the Lehigh River. This is a peaceful section of trail, with views of the canal and remnants of historic buildings.
The Details: As construction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge continues, access to the southern portion of this section may be disrupted for some time. Because the canal terminates at Parryville, trail users wishing to travel further south will need to cross the river at Weissport and continue on the Weissport - Lehigh Gap section of the D&L Trail (currently closed).

Probably built in the second quarter of the 19th century as a canal side hotel. Later that century, a barn/warehouse on the property south of the dwelling was the headquarters for Rickert"s Coal and Freight Company. The coal yards stood between the brick building and barn, and the canal.

Weissport flourished as a boat building and commercial center for the Lehigh Canal from 1829-1931. It offers the area's best access to the D&L/Lehigh Canal towpath trail. Many of the town's 19th century buildings survive tucked behind a flood control dike which adjoins the Lehigh River.
